Tom acquired the Detroit Pistons in 2011. He prioritized improving the fan experience, increasing community engagement and revitalizing downtown Detroit. His bold decision to relocate the Pistons downtown and construct the Henry Ford Health Detroit Pistons Performance Center in the New Center area accelerated this vision, breathing life into metro Detroit and generating millions of dollars in economic impact while fostering community engagement and revitalization. Tom also recently made a multibillion-dollar community investment alongside Henry Ford Health, the Pistons, and Michigan State University that features affordable housing, retail spaces, and a state-of-the-art hospital and medical research facility.

“respect history, but be
Passionate about the future.”

“Listen. Inspire. Execute.”

“never be limited by perception.”

In 2024, Tom expanded his professional sports portfolio and acquired a minority stake in the Los Angeles Chargers at a pivotal time for the organization. The team is expanding its global brand presence, recently moved to a new state-of-the-art headquarters and practice facility, The Bolt, in El Segundo, CA and developed an in-house content studio designed to create best-in-class sports content, programming and experiences. In its quest to win a championship, the organization hired head coach Jim Harbaugh, who led the team to an 11-6 record and a 2024 AFC Wild Card playoff game.

Capitalizing on the growth of women’s professional sports, Tom and his wife Holly lead an ownership group that was awarded a WNBA expansion franchise to begin play in 2029. The ownership group comprises a diverse and accomplished group of investors with ties to Detroit, from sports, business, entertainment, media and finance.

Plans for the WNBA Detroit team include constructing a new dedicated WNBA practice facility and team headquarters to allow for around-the-clock training and amenities for players and coaches. The team will play its games at Little Caesars Arena, bringing another 22-plus sporting events to the city each year and delivering additional economic impact to the restaurants and small businesses in the downtown area.
