The partnership will focus on education initiatives to benefit schools, children and families in Flint. Johnson has agreed to serve on a community advisory board being formed by the FlintNOW Foundation.
The Detroit Pistons announced that the club’s 15 players and key executives will commit a total of $500,000 to the FlintNOW relief effort launched last week by team owner Tom Gores.
The first grants were announced from a $10 million campaign to address the crisis in Flint, Michigan, including a contribution to the children’s health fund.
Mr. Gores, a Flint native, said he would rally support from business and civic leaders for both immediate relief efforts in the unfolding water crisis.
