Born in Israel, Tom moved with his family at age four to Michigan, where they owned a small grocery store in Genesee, just 10 miles from Flint. In high school Tom played baseball, football, and basketball, and went on to work his way through college at Michigan State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1986.

“In flint, I learned shared purpose and pride in the community.”

In 1995, Tom founded Platinum Equity, which has grown into a global investment firm with $48+ billion of assets under management, teams and investors around the world, and a diverse, global portfolio of operating companies in a wide range of industries. Platinum Equity’s current portfolio of approximately 60 companies operates in a diverse range of industries, generates $90+ billion of aggregate revenue and employs approximately 200,000 people across the globe.

With grit and relentless determination, Tom has built his legacy one deal at a time, identifying promising opportunities and transforming them through tenacity and hard work. An empathetic leader, his willingness to take thoughtful, calculated risks and his ability to adapt to rapidly changing market dynamics have contributed to his remarkable achievements.

“We have been flexible to everything and stubborn to our principles.”

Tom has diversified his career interests by expanding into sports and entertainment, after purchasing the Detroit Pistons in 2011, investing in the LA Chargers in 2024, and leading an investor group to a WNBA franchise in Detroit. Tom has built upon his ownership by investing in real estate ventures and key partnerships intended to amplify the trajectory of Detroit’s resurgence for decades to come.

“There is no way to think your way to better.
You have to act your way to better.”

Bringing a genuine care and concern for those around him, as well as a steadfast sense of purpose, Tom has created an impact that amplifies. Self-described as “just a boy from Flint,” Tom’s influence in business and philanthropy has transcended his humble beginnings, with ripple effects reaching across the globe.

“surround yourself with People who love and support you.”

Tom has experienced remarkable success in business but believes that true fulfillment is to be found in his relationships with family and friends. Tom is devoted to his loved ones, including his wife and three children, his mother and four siblings. The values instilled in him by his parents form the foundation of his achievements, and he aims to pass down those principles to future generations, ensuring a legacy of compassion and integrity.

Tom is most proud of his role as a father and mentor to his three children who are now making their mark as young entrepreneurs and philanthropists, but for Tom, loyalty and commitment to family extends far beyond the personal sphere. An unwavering dedication to his Platinum Equity family, the Detroit Pistons, and his tireless efforts to give back to the wider community exemplify the significance of these bonds and the profound impact they have on his life.

Tom currently resides in Beverly Hills with his wife, Holly.
